MUSIC TUTORS

We are fortunate to have very experienced Music Tutors who are able to offer tuition in piano (contemporary and classical), keyboard, voice (contemporary) flute, clarinet, oboe, saxophone, brass (trumpet, trombone. tuba, french horn), guitar (acoustic and electric), bass (electric and upright),and drums ( kit and percussion).  Violin, viola,  and other instruments may be offered if there is sufficient demand for these.

Adrian Win is a Guitarist and Singer/Songwriter originally from Taranaki. He has been a Guitar,Bass & band tutor for 10 years at a variety of schools and institutions. Adrian has always focused on writing music and has played, recorded and written music for a number of bands over the years and has had music on radio stations such as The Rock, Kiwi Fm, Radioactive, Radio NZ and a range of Bnet Stations and music videos on C4, Juice TV. Adrian has performed in a variety of bands ranging from acoustic duo's, Covers bands, Reggae to Hard rock. Over the years Adrian has played in Bands with members & done support for range of NZ artists such as Neil Finn(Crowded House), Katchafire, The Feelers and The Datsuns. Adrian has also graced the stage of many venues and Festivals such as One Love, Summer City (Botanic Gardens Soundshell), Organic River Festival, Wellington Town hall, Powerstation and many others. Adrian also tutors the HIBS Band Coaching Programme.

Originally from Christchurch and now residing in Wellington, Johnny has spent many years travelling the world, performing on Cruise Ships, playing residencies at hotels in Asia and living in Toronto, Canada for 8 years.
Returning from travels abroad Johnny is now a firm fixture on the jazz/pop/r&b and electronic music scenes and can be seen playing bass for New Zealand artists – Iva Lamkum, Thomas Oliver, Louis Baker, Electric Wire Hustle and many combinations of jazz and electronic groups around Wellington. Recently, Johnny has joined the band Fat Freddy's Drop as their new bassist.

Currently drummer in well know Kiwi synth-pop band KITA, Rick has also played in bands such as the  psychedelic rock group Little Bushman. He has performed at the Australasian World Music Expo 2009, Womad 2009. and also performed in concert with the NZSO and APO. He often plays at many festivals around NZ. Rick also works along side bass man Tom Callwood in original jazz band the Green Herring Trio, performing regularly at venues such as Havana and Happy in Wellington. Rick has performed in groups such as Dead End Beat, Elephant Men, and Cleatus, as well as working with jazz players Kris Wanders (Melbourne), Jonathon Crayford, Paul Dyne, Jeff Henderson many other Wellington based jazz artist. Rick also directs the HIBS Jazz Combo and oversees the Drum Corps.

Amity completed a music degree majoring in jazz saxophone performance from Massey University in 2001. She returned later to The New Zealand School of Music completing an Honours year in 2007 and her Masters in Music in 2009.
She has an equal passion for both teaching and playing music, having taught saxophone, clarinet and keyboard in many schools around the Wellington Region, and privately since 2001. Amity currently plays in a variety of groups spanning the genres of Jazz, Classical and Rock music including: Escada Jazz Quartet, The Soulminerz, Altitude Saxophone Quartet, but her first passion is for big band jazz music, and she has played with Rodger Fox’s New Zealand School of Music Big Band since 2006, performing and touring with International Artists such as Bob Shepherd, Clay Jenkins, and Georgie Fame.

Matthew is a Wellingtonian and a graduate of the New Zealand School of Music - Te Kōki, has played cornet for Wellington Brass Band previously as both Soprano and Principal Cornet. Matthew was NZSM Brass Player of the Year 2010, Championship Cornet 2014 and recipient of the Brassiers and Armourers Brass Prize at the Guildhall in 2017. Matt has a Master of Music from The Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London and is currently performing with the Royal Air Force Band of New Zealand and Orchestra Wellington. He is also the Associate Musical Director of the Wellington Brass Band.

Michael is a Wellington-based singer, music director and composer, specialising in musical theatre. Although originally from the United Kingdom, he’s now a fully registered teacher with the Education Council in New Zealand and has over ten years experience teaching singing and classroom music. A passionate musician, Michael gets great joy from helping his students realise their potential and from making music with other people. A regular Music Director in the Wellington theatre scene, Michael has worked with The Wellington Footlights Society (which he co-founded)

Richard has spent many years playing improvised music, especially jazz and folk music. He also has great interest in Classical repetoire. He has performed with Rodger Fox, Gordon Brisker (USA) and many other jazz and folk musicians. He is probably best recognised for his virtuoso arco playing.
