REMOTE LEARNING

Sometimes students and tutors aren't able to get to lessons due to unforeseen circumstances. Our online remote-learning is a way in which our music tutors can keep in touch with students in the event they are unable to see them in person.

When this situation arises, tutors will conduct their lessons via Zoom . Students will be asked to create a free account using their school google login details.
(a link to download Zoom is below). It would be advisable to have the lessons conducted in a communal room such as the lounge or dining area. Lessons should not take place in bedrooms unless an adult is also present.

For the lessons to run smoothly students are asked to do the following things:
  1. Make sure they are ready for their lesson 5 mins before their timetabled slot
  2. Have a device (with Zoom installed) positioned so that they can be seen clearly by the tutor (the tutors will help them position the camera in a spot where they can see the instrument and student clearly)
  3. Have all music readily accessible (a link for all the music for each tutor will be available for download via the lessons/instrument page)
  4. Have any backing tracks you need set up to play (preferably from a different device to that running the Zoom session if possible)

Reminders

Zoom offers a feature where reminders and schedules can be put into google calendar. This is a good way to make sure students remember when remote lessons are going to take place. Tutors will most likely set up a schedule in Zoom which will alert students when lessons are about to start.

If a student is not able to make an online lesson or is having issues with logging in, please contact the tutor in advance.

Changing the audio settings

For best results, you may need to change the audio settings (especially for drums, guitar and bass. Here is a short video demonstrating how to do this.  This can only be done in the desktop application, not in the browser

Unfortunately this feature is not available on mobile devices.
