ORCHESTRA    Greg McMillan-Perry

The HIBS Orchestra meets once a week before school. It is open to all orchestral instrumentalists and is a great opportunity for lads taking lessons at HIBS or out of school to get some experience of playing in a small orchestra. Parts are tailored to meet each students skill level. The group plays a range of repertoire from light classical to contemporary pop. The orchestra plays at all the large musical events at HIBS including Variety Show and Prize giving.

If you have any enquiries regarding the orchestra, contact Greg McMillan-Perry.

BIG BAND     Greg McMillan-Perry & Ian Ridgewell

Picture
Big Band is an all comers music group designed to give the boys and opportunity to be part of a large musical ensemble. The band is jointly directed by Mr Greg McMillan-Perry (HOD Music) and Ian Ridgewell, and is joined by Ms Amity Alton-Lee (Sax/Clarinet tutor) who plays alongside the boys, mentoring and nurturing the younger, less experienced players. This Band plays a variety of ‘pop’ pieces and is the core music group at HIBS. It is a friendly, fun environment for new students to hone their performance skills, and an opportunity for the more advanced players to act as role models for the others in the band. The band also acts as a ‘feeder’ for the Jazz Group.

The Big Band meets once a week on a lunchtime, and performs at least once a term. All students learning a band instrument (oboe, clarinet, saxophone, brass, and percussion and keyboard), whether through school or out of school tuition are invited to be part of this group. The group combines with the String Group on occasion to form a school orchestra.

If you have any enquiries regarding the band, contact Greg McMillan-Perry.
